THE ARTIST

Jan Jimenez was born in Cavité, Philippines, and raised in the Pacific Northwest. He has engaged in the fine arts at an early age, having taken art classes throughout elementary school. A "jack-of-all-trades", Jan demonstrates a versatility in the arts: playing viola, self-taught on the piano, and drawing with a multitude of mediums - ranging from the traditional to the digital. In much of his work, Jimenez finds inspiration in music, popular culture, and clinical explorations of the human body. The latter theme is drawn from the artist's personal experiences being born with spina bifida - a birth defect that causes a varying degree of physical disability. It has been these experiences with disability, healthcare, and access to talents that has shaped the trajectory for Jan's future ambitions.

Jan Jimenez graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA in 2017, with a Bachelor of Arts in Medical Anthropology & Global Health, Human Evolutionary Biology, and Drawing & Painting.

Jimenez has contributed his talents to produce work ranging from public installations, publications, to personal projects. Aside from drawing and playing music, Jan enjoys committing time to volunteering at free clinics and offering primary care services to the homeless. Equipped with his artist's eye and fondness for the sciences and humanities, Jan aspires to become a physician - to provide greater access to health education for the public and to bring healing and advocate for better access to healthcare to disadvantaged communities.

"Art unites people - offering ideas and shared experiences.

Art can mend what's broken - serving as a conduit for healing."
